Shot on the opening day of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Most of these shots have been slowed down by about 20 percent in Final Cut. The frame blending in Final cut is not the best, but for Vimeo doesn’t look too bad. Motion uses ‘Optical Flow’ which seems better. Then there’s ‘Twixtor’. I’ve tried the demo and the results are impressive, though I’m not happy with the work flow and rendering times compared to the Motion option. Hopefully the 5D firmware upgrade will offer variable frame rates.

These are some test shots done with an HPX170/Redrock rig in and around Halifax, Nova Scotia. While some of results I think were pretty good, it’s just way too bulky a set up for my tastes. While dSLR’s have some distance to travel, I do think they’re heralding the end of this way of shooting.

The interior car shots were almost impossible with rails and adapter on the camera. It was only luck and the fact that I’m wiry enough to be able to contort myself into some uncomfortable positions that any useful footage came out of it. There just isn’t any way to stabilize the rig quickly in small spaces. For some, that may not be an issue, but for my style of shooting, it definitely is.
